Your Library Card

Who can get a library card, how to apply, and how to use your library card.

  • To obtain a library card, you must be a resident of Aurora or rural Buchanan County or have a valid card from another Iowa library. These can be individual cards or family cards. Cards are available at the circulation desk.
  • Patrons and/or parents/guardians are responsible for the care of all materials checked out to them and their children and to return them in a timely fashion.
  • Books and magazines are checked out for a two week period, with a one week grace period. Books and magazines may be renewed for an additional 2 weeks upon the request of the patron in person or by phone. Videos/dvds are checked out for one week with one renewal allowed if requested in person or by phone.
  • No more than 5 books at a time may be loaned to one patron or at librarian's discretion. No more than 3 videos/dvds per family will loaned out.
  • The library does not charge for overdue books or magazines. We do ask that the patron contribute to the 'guilt jar'. Overdue videos/dvds will cost the patron $1.00 per video/dvd per day that the library is open.
  • The library provides an outside drop box for patrons to return materials when the library is closed.
  • Books or videos/dvds may be reserved by request. Patron must pick up reserve within one week after being contacted or item will be returned to regular circulation or passed on to the next person on the reserve list.
